The 7 Teams To Give Sundowns A Guard Of Honour

Mamelodi Sundowns secured their sixth successive DStv Premiership title with seven games to spare, meaning seven opponents will likely give Rulani Mokwena and his men a guard of honour.

Masandawana won the 2022/23 league title without being in action over the weekend after SuperSport United, who were the only side left with a mathematical chance to catch Downs, dropping two points in a 1-1 draw with Chippa United.

As a consequence, Downs secured the title with seven games to spare and it will go into the record books as that as confirmed to iDiski Times by the Premier Soccer League.

There had been question marks whether it will be recorded as title with six games to spare, seeing that Downs hadn’t secured the title after match round 23, and only now that their closest rivals had finished their 24th fixture.

However, PSL Media Officer Fhatuwani Mpfuni told iDiski Times that the title will be record with seven games to spare, since Sundowns still have seven matches remaining in the league.

Sundowns’ still have several records to chase and continue their league action on Tuesday, when they will host Cape Town City. The Citizens, just like the other six teams Downs will still face, are expected to hand the newly-crowned champions a guard of honour as common in South Africa.

The other teams will be Swallows, Golden Arrows, Richards Bay, AmaZulu, Marumo Gallants and Maritzburg United.
