Teko Names His 3 Candidates For Player Of The Season
With the season coming to an end, former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teko Modise has picked his three candidates for the Player of the Season award.
The Premier Soccer League confirmed on Wednesday that the nominees for the PSL awards will be announced on Thursday at 11:00.
Modise selected three Downs players for the prestigious award, saying Andile Jali, Themba Zwane and goal-scoring machine Peter Shalulile are the three players that were outstanding for him in this campaign.
“For me this season I think it’s three for different reasons Andile Jali has been very instrumental in Mamelodi Sundown’s success this season, I saw the best of Andile this season after a while,” Modise told Mahlatse Mphahlele.
“And then for Themba Zwane I think it the consistency knowing how difficult it is South African football to have a player that is consistent, I think for the last three or four years he been one of the consistent players for Mamelodi Sundowns to see him still being consistent, yes the numbers might not be the same ones as to last season, but the consistency that is there for me is very impressive.
“Also to see Shalulile being the player that he is for Mamelodi Sundowns it’s been a while since we been seen a goal-scorer of note for Mamelodi Sundowns because Mamelodi Sundowns, when you win a championship, it’s always been everybody poking in goals, but to see also him being consistent, I think those are my three candidates.”
Jali managed to make 39 appearances in all competitions for the twelve-time league champions, scoring two goals and having one assist.
Last season’s Player of the Season, Zwane, made 40 appearances in all competitions, netting eight goals and assisting eight times, while Shalulile proved to be a goal-scoring machine, and managed to bang in 28 goals, assisting seven times in 42 appearances in all competitions.
