Kempton Park police will be investigating the incident involving one of their clerks assaulting a woman.
In a video that has been widely shared on social media, the man can be seen slapping the woman across her face multiple times.
While an internal case has been opened against the clerk in question, police cannot proceed further unless the woman comes forward to lay a criminal charge.
Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello said the incident of assault has been noted with disappointment.
“The incident is condemned in the strongest possible terms. As the SAPS, we are mandated to protect and serve and also fight against any incidents of violence, especially those perpetrated against women and children.”
Footage of the assault was captured by an onlooker and there were other eyewitnesses present.
The woman and clerk appear to be having a heated disagreement before she is slapped.
