Tau’s Ahly To Kick Off 2022 Club World Cup

Al Ahly will kick off the 2022 FIFA Club World Cup in Morocco against New Zealand giants Auckland City.

The record ten-time Champions League winner who won back-to-back bronze medals in the competition under former coach Pitso Mosimane have been selected to compete for a third consecutive edition as runners-up of Africa’s elite club competition.

This was decided after champions Wydad Atheltic Club, were confirmed as hosts after Morocco won the bid to host the prestigious event.

Tau, who could not take part at the event in the United Arab Emirates last season, will be in a race against time to get back to full fitness as he looks to compete in the tournament he stated he was looking to help the Red Devils win.

With the tournament starting on 1 February running until 11 February, the Club of the Century will face City on the opening day – with former Mamelodi Sundowns forward Emiliano Tade set to take centre stage for the Oceania champions.

Meanwhile, Al Hilal has been elected to represent Asia, due to the AFC Champions League schedule running until after the tournament.

The 2021 champions lost out on bronze last season to Ahly after a 4-0 trouncing in which they ended the match with nine-men.

However, with 12 players from their squad competing at the recent FIFA World Cup in Qatar for Saudi Arabia, there’s real optimism of an improved display for the Asian Galácticos.
