Tau Misses Penalty But Pitso’s Ahly Remain Unbeaten

Pitso Mosimane maintained his unbeaten record with Al Ahly in the 2021/22 Egyptian Premier League campaign as they beat Al Ittihad 1-0 in Cairo.

Ahly started the game at the summit of the Egyptian top-flight while second and third-placed Pyramids and Zamalek faced off against each other.

With the pressure of the two title challengers facing off at the same late 21h30 kickoff – due to the Holy month of Ramadan – Ahly showed their pedigree to secure three points.

This, despite Percy Tau missing a 16th-minute penalty. His miss wasn’t too costly as former Simba SC star Luis Miquissone scored a stunning strike ten minutes before the break.

Despite holding nearly 75% of the possession, the Red Devils couldn’t find the second goal, while Zamalek beat Pyramids 3-2 in a five-goal thriller, to move back into second place.

Bafana Bafana forward Fagrie Lakay was on the scoresheet to make it 2-1 in the first half but the White Knights fought back to inflict Pyramids’ second defeat of the season.

The results leaves Mosimane’s troops three points ahead of Zamalek, and five ahead of Pyramids and with a game in hand over both sides.
