Musa Nyatama will be the new head coach of Swallows FC for the 2023/24 season, club chairman David Mogashoa confirmed to Robert Marawa on MSW.
Nyatama, who was a player at the beginning of the season, guided the Soweto giants as caretaker coach into the top eight after being appointed following the departure of Ernst Middendorp in March.
He ensured that Swallows are in the MTN8 quarter-finals next season by beating Marumo Gallants 2-0 in the last game of the season at Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday.
In turn, Swallows relegated Gallants to the Motsepe Foundation Championship, with the Limpopo club having had an incredible African experience, as they reached the semi final of the CAF Confederation Cup.
The Dube Birds also finished by winning four games on the bounce, the first time they managed to do so this campaign.
In those four matches, they conceded just one goal, which came against Kaizer Chiefs in a 2-1, while they kept clean sheets against Maritzburg United, Royal AM and Gallants respectively.
“Nyatama will be Swallows’ new coach for next season,” said Mogashoa on MSW on Tuesday.
In all Nyatama, the former classy midfielder, was in charge of eight league matches, winning five, losing two and drawing the other game.
It was a great turnaround of fortunes for the Dube Birds as when Nyatama took over, Swallows was lying in 14th place, with eight games to go.
“It has been a turnaround for the boys, I’m happy for them,” Nyatama told iDiski Times after they beat Royal AM recently.
“I think they have been coachable and that is the most important thing – listening, willing to learn and that was the most important part of football.
“I’m grateful to them for listening to me. But it has been satisfying knowing you have the capability of coaching, knowing you also got the support from the management to say ‘if we give you the responsibility, you take it or not’.”

Nyatama replaced his former coach Middendorp, who was in charge of 10 DStv Premiership games, winning three, drawing two and losing five – including a 4-1 defeat to Orlando Pirates, which was the last game in charge of the German tactician before he moved back to his home country to coach Meppen in March.
