SuperSport United are set to unveil new signing after he completed medical ahead of a switch from the DStv Premiership outfit.
Matsatsantsa are continuing to reinforce their squad for what is set to be a busy campaign for them as they will take part in the CAF Confederation Cup. They qualified for the continental competition by virtue of finishing third in the 2022/23 DStv Premiership table.
Meanwhile, PSL has also added the fourth trophy, Carling Knockout Cup, debuting this season. This means more matches for all teams in the South African top-flight.
Matsatsantsa have completed the signing of Lyle Lakay from their cross-town rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.
SUPERSPORT UNITED’S NEXT SIGNING COMPLETE MEDICAL
The left-footer underwent medical tests on Wednesday at the Netcare Waterfall City Hospital in Midrand. He’s likely to be unveiled before the end of this week.
Lakay returns to the Spartans for the second stint as he was part of the club’s development at young age. He got a promotion to the senior team in 2009 and was loaned out twice to FC Cape Town before he left the club permanently for Bloemfontein Celtic.
He also had a stint with his home province side Cape Town City where he spent just one season before he joined the Brazilians in 2018. Pitso Mosimane, who was mentoring Sundowns then, converted him from a winger to a left-back.
Last season, the 32-year-old spent the season on loan with Cape Town City after Sundowns signed Terrence Mashego. Now, it’s the end of the road for him at Chloorkop as he joins Gavin Hunt’s side.
Lakay racked up 162 appearances in the Brazilians colours, scored 13 goals and recorded 26 assists. He offers Hunt different options as he can use him as a left-back or winger.
