‘Sundowns are finished’ after signing Orlando Pirates star Saleng

Mamelodi Sundowns have swooped to sign Orlando Pirates man Monnapule Saleng. This has been met with plenty of scepticism online.

On loan at Orbit College from Orlando Pirates, the 27-year-old winger divided opinion across the country.

Sundowns sign Saleng from Orlando Pirates

The Betway Premiership champions have made two big statements of intent this window. First, they made a move for R57 million Colombian striker Brayan Leon. Now, they’ve surprised everyone by swooping for controversial Orlando Pirates figure Monnapule Saleng.

Not everyone on the internet is happy. Some Sundowns fans have suggested that this move is a sign of regression from the club.

How has Saleng fared this season?

At Orbit College on loan, Saleng has shown flickers of the brilliance which saw him crowned as 2022-23 PSL Player of the Season. He’s got two goals and three assists from 11 league appearances this term. At 27, he’s still got plenty in the tank and loads to offer. The issue, however, might be his application and ability to string quality performances together in larger sample sizes. We know he can win a match out of nothing, but can he perform for 15 matches on the bounce?

Where will Orlando Pirates talisman Rele Mofokeng be next season?

Al-Ettifaq, Maccabi Haifa, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Minnesota United and Russian side FC Akron have all been credited with an interest in the player. Mofokeng was forthright about the possibility of exploring his options:

“I think if something can be available for me, I can get the chance somewhere in another country. I think it will be a very good move. This tournament is very important [in that aspect],” Mofokeng stated on Goal.
“When I get a chance, I’ll just have to grab it,” Mofokeng added.
