Stellenbosch FC and DR Congo winger William Likuta have parted ways with immediate effect, iDiski Times can confirm.
Likuta joined Stellies in the off-season from Linafoot outfit DC Motema Pembe and came highly-rated as one of the league’s most technically gifted players.
However, things have not worked out for the player at the Cape Winelands-based side, as head coach Steve Barker often opted to field their academy products in the first XI.
This publication has learnt the player was offered a mutual termination of contract due to his lack of game-time.
With the club in a precarious position in the league, having slipped down into 13th place, as many as Swallows in the promotion/relegation playoff spot, they will now look to add a new foreign player to fill the fifth quota spot before the January window deadline.
Likuta was initially signed as a replacement for Stanley Dimgba, who was released alongside a host of experienced players in the off-season.
The 25-year-old is said to have interest back in his homeland but will bide his time for his next move, as he looks for offers in South Africa and prove his worth.
Likuta made just six appearances for Stellies this season, with five of them coming of the bench and none since October.
