DStv Diski Challenge champions Stellenbosch got off to the ideal start at the NextGen Cup in the United Kingdom when they beat Nottingham Forest 4-1 in the semi-finals.

Devin Titus opened the scoring for Stellenbosch in the seventh minute, a great counterattack by Mervin Boji and he squared the ball to Titus who made no mistake.

Forest were level in the 17th minute after Sam Collins struck with a great shot from the edge of the area.

However, Stellies were back in front again in the 26th minute, and it was the captain Titus again on the scoresheet, scoring with a second attempt.

It was 3-1 in the 30th minute, Antonio Van Wyk, fresh from the Cosafa Cup, excellently running into the box and beating the keeper.

Just before half-time Titus had a chance for his hat-trick, but this time the keeper made the save, and a moment later Van Wyk shot just over to deny him his second.

Stellies started the second half well, and Boji was denied by the keeper in the second minute, while Joshua Wood shot just wide in the 48th minute.

Having only just come off the bench, Roy-Keane Avontuur was set up by Boji and he made it 4-1 in the 54th minute. (Coincidentally the player Avontuur was named after, Roy Keane, played for Notts Forest).

Boji had a great chance in the dying minutes to make it five, but his shot went narrowly wide.

A good win for Stellies, who also won a friendly yesterday against a visiting Indian team, Kerala Blasters.

Earlier in the day, Leicester City booked their place in the U23 tournament final by beating Indian club Bengaluru 6-3. Stellenbosch and Leicester will meet on Saturday.
