SuperSport United have collected a big win in the race for second spot, while handing Kaizer Chiefs their 11th defeat of the season, which is a new negative record in the Premier Soccer League era.

The game was quiet for the first 30 minutes of the game, with neither side being able create any clear-cut chances, but Gavin Hunt’s side took control for the rest of the half.

Bradley Grobler had the first real chance of the match after after 35 minutes, when a cross by Thapelo Maseko found the striker unmarked in the box, but his flying header was turned around the post by Brandon Petersen.

But five minute later, Petersen turned from hero into villain after pushing a looping ball right on the foot of Ghampani Lunga, who lopped it over the goalkeeper to hand the home side a deserved lead.

Siyabonga Ngezana almost equalised in the 62nd minute but free-kick by Reeve Frosler found him by surprise and his effort went just next to the post.

Three minutes later Grobler almost made it 2-0 for the hosts, but his attempt from inside the five-yard box missed the target on the far post.

Dillan Solomons had a great chance to equalise after 73 minutes, but his shot went just wide off the post.

The result saw SuperSport move to 51 points on the log, level with second-placed Orlando Pirates, who dropped two points against Sekhukhune United at home.

Chiefs, meanwhile, have collected 11 defeats in a top flight campaign for the first time in the PSL era since 1996 and are now officially out of the race for the CAF inter-club spots, with the gap top Pirates and SSU growing to seven points.
