Spurs To Secure Downs Winger?

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Luvuyo Phewa could return to Cape Town Spurs on a season-long loan move, according to iDiski Times sources.

Phewa joined Spurs on short-term loan in January after he returned from University Of Pretoria to Sundowns following the 2021/22 campaign.

The 23-year-old had a good loan spell at Tuks, scoring 10 goals in 27 appearances to help them to book their spots in the PSL promotional play-offs, but they missed out on promotion.

But things remained tricky for him when he returned to Chloorkop, as he didn’t feature for his mother club and was sent out on loan again in January.

Phewa started slowly at Spurs but he turned into a weapon often used off the bench by head coach Shaun Bartlett when opponents started to tire. Together with the likes of Boitumelo Radiopane and Chumani Butsaka they even earned the nickname ‘bomb squad’.

In May, Spurs reaped the rewards for their patience, as he scored the winning goal against La Masia, which kept their title hopes alive.

Overall, he made nine appearances for the Urban Warriors in the Motsepe Foundation Championship and also featured in all four play-off games, as Spurs beat Maritzburg to the top spot in the mini league to return to the DStv Premiership.

iDiski Times has learnt that Phewa could be returning back to the mother city on a season-long loan, as he looks to get more regular game-time and help the Urban Warriors in the upcoming 2023/24 season.
