South African Arrested in Zimbabwe for Sending Bomb Scare Email
A South African man has been arrested at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport for sending a bomb scare email which caused chaos and the temporary closure of Zimbabwean airports.

Chaos Unleashed: Bomb Scare Email Leads to Airport Shutdown
The bomb scare email forced President Emmerson Mnangagwa to abort landing at Victoria Falls International Airport on Friday, where he was supposed to attend an international conference after authorities received an email of a credible bomb-firearm threat.
The email sent through Fastjet Airlines by an individual, who has since been identified, claimed that there was a ‘credible bomb/firearm threat’ targeting Victoria Falls International Airport and Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport.

Identity of Bomb Scare Email Sender Revealed
In a statement on Friday, Presidential spokesperson George Charamba indicated that investigations were being conducted to establish who had sent the email. On Monday, George Charamba confirmed the arrest and revealed that authorities in Zimbabwe had traced the bomb scare email to a South African national named Caun Reed Govender.

A local publication, ZimLive, reported that its sources had indicated that Govender was arrested at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport on Saturday after the scanner detected five bullets in his bag.
“The presidency says 26-year-old South African man with one arm, arrested at RGM International Airport on March 2, is the ‘John Doe’ who sparked panic after claiming there was a bomb/firearms threat to Vic Falls airport. He was arrested after scanner detected 5 bullets in his bag,” ZimLive wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
