Sibisi – How I Ended Up At Pirates

Orlando Pirates defender Nkosinathi Sibisi has explained how he signed for the club from Golden Arrows after widespread interest in his services.

Sibisi joined the Buccaneers in the off-season after more than a year of courting from the club after he established himself as a senior national team player due to his consistent performances with Arrows.

The 26-year-old has since slotted seamlessly in the defence of Jose Riveiro’s new-look team this season but it could so easily have been different with the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns among the notable suitors during his rise to prominence in the DStv Premiership.

“The negotiations started last season, there has been interested not only from Orlando Pirates but other teams as well,” Sibisi told Orlando Pirates TV.

“I had a chat with my agent Mr Mike Makaab. He advised me as best as possible in terms of the decision on what the teams bring and what I bring, the culture of the team and if I’d fit in terms of the culture of the team. And [also] if I would fit in that team.

“So in the end I decided to join Orlando Pirates because it’s the team I supported as a boy you know. So I want to write my story with the club.”

Sibisi, who has starred alongside captain Innocent Maela, fellow new signing Tapelo Xoki – who joined from AmaZulu and Nigeria international Oilsa Ndah in other games says it’s not been a difficult adjustment since his arrival at Mayfair,

“The environment was quite good, the boys have been quite welcoming, I know some from the national team, some we come from the same areas,” he added.

“So it wasn’t that big of an adjustment because you see familiar faces. I wasn’t as close with many of them but it makes the environment much easier to work in.”

Sibisi has featured in all seven games for Pirates this season across all competitions, scoring one goal in the 1-1 draw against Stellenbosch at Danie Craven earlier this month.
