Orlando Pirates full-back Bandile Shandu has opened up on his rich vein of goal-scoring form ahead of the Soweto derby this afternoon.
Shandu, 27, joined Pirates on a free transfer in the off-season after a decade of experience with Maritzburg United in the Premier Soccer League.
Despite his performances at the Team Of Choice, his signing raised question marks around a section of Pirates supporters, but he’s quickly dispelled any sort of criticism with an impressive debut season thus far.
“I think it proves how the great coaches we have and players we have around me, it proves how one can take a step forward and really produce to a result where I am,” Shandu said.
“I thank the coaches, my teammate for helping me to adjust quickly and perform at a high level and help the team where I can, so yeah huge thanks to them and the coaches.”
Shandu who is comfortable at full-back, in midfielder or further up the pitch as a winger, has scored six in 27 games across all competitions this season.
