AmaZulu suffered a 2-0 defeat in Algeria to ES Setif to blow Group B wide open after Horoya’s emphatic CAF Champions League result over Raja Athletic Club earlier today.
Benni McCarthy’s side started the day in second place behind the Botola giants while Horoya looked to be on the brink of elimination as they faced Raja – who had a 100% record.
But the Guinea Pro Ligue 1 champions shocked the Moroccans with a 2-1 win in Conakry, while Usuthu went down by two goals in the opening half at the Stade du Juliet 5 on Saturday evening.
Riad Benayad opened the scoring in the 11th minute before Akram Djahnit secured all three points with the last kick of the opening half.
Despite probing in the second stanza, the South African outfit ended the game without a single shot on target – which to the dismay of the visibally frustrated McCarthy.
Raja lead the standings with nine points, while Setif (6) moved to second, level on points with third place AmaZulu – while Horaya have three points after four rounds of fixtures.
