SETBACK: Pogba suffers knee injury scare

Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has suffered a knee injury (lateral meniscus) just weeks after re-joining the Italian giants from Manchester United, where he spent six seasons.

The United academy graduate Pogba left Old Trafford for Juventus as a free agent in 2012, only to return four years later for a then-world-record fee of £89m.

But he has had a topsy-turvy second spell with United, who confirmed he will leave for nothing for the second time when his deal expires this month.

The Frenchman has been ruled out of today’s friendly against Barcelona in Dallas.

However, the club did not divulge how long the 29-year-old will be out of action as he is expected to see a specialist and continue treatment.

The club did not disclose the estimated recovery time but said that the 29-year-old would see a specialist in the next few hours and continue treatment.

“Following complaining of pain in his right knee, Paul Pogba underwent radiological examinations that revealed a lesion of the lateral meniscus,” read Juve’s statement.

Pogba started in a friendly against Guadalajara over the weekend, his first match for Juventus since his return to the club on a free transfer.

Massimiliano Allegri’s side will commence their 2022/23 Serie A season against Sassuolo on Friday, 15 August.

The club will be hoping to win the Serie A title for the first time since 2020.
