Sello Maake kaNcube to launch platform for men to talk manhood amid GBV crisis

Sello Maake Ka Ncube is preparing to step into a new role, one offscreen and offstage. The veteran actor is set to launch a platform, Man of Purpose, for men to gather and discuss the meaning of manhood.

The first event is scheduled for 17 October 2026 at Sakhumzi Zoo Lake Restaurant in Johannesburg.

Sello Maake kaNcube launches Man of Purpose

The 66-year-old actor built the platform with the intention of men coming together to have necessary conversations about purpose, manhood, and personal responsibility. Maake kaNcube made it clear that the platform isn’t a performative space, stating:

“Men of Purpose is not about presenting men as perfect. It is about creating a space where men can confront themselves honestly, recognise their responsibilities and make conscious choices about the men they want to become,” Maake KaNcube said, according to Africa Daily.

The platform is meant for men across all social, age, and class groups. The actor, along with the event organisers, acknowledged that reflection, accountability, and personal development are at the centre of this platform. The target audience is not limited to men interested in examining their own experiences and sitting with the weight of their choices.

A part of a larger conversation

The announcement of the launch comes amidst the discovery of nine bodies of women in the Ekurhuleni area. There has been a growing group of men using their platforms to speak up against the ongoing violence against women; names like Siya Kolisi, Somizi, Nasty C and Toss.
