Saleng Seals Comeback Win For Pirates Over City In Orlando

Orlando Pirates secured a 2-1 comeback win over Cape Town City in their DStv Premiership clash at Orlando Stadium that moved the Buccaneers back into second place.

Pirates started the game knowing a win could put them two points ahead of SuperSport United in the race for CAF Champions League football after their mid-week 0-0 draw against Marumo Gallants and started the brighter of the two sides.

They dominated possession with Deon Hotto causing plenty of problems for Thami Mkhize on the flank but for all the endeavors, it was City that opened the scoring totally against the run of play just before the 20-minute mark.

A quick one-two put Khanyisa Mayo clean through on goal and he made no mistake with the finish past Sipho Chaine to shock the home side.

But they managed to gather their composure and nine minutes later they were back on level terms as Terrence Dzvukamanja netted his fifth of the season with a powerful header – which they took towards half-time.

The second half started with more of the same, Pirates on the front foot looking to take advantage of the right side of City’s defence.

Eric Tinkler eventually hauled the captain off for Keanu Cupido but the new-look shape of the Citizens could hardly string a sequence of passes together for large spells.

And Pirates eventually made them pay when Monnapule Saleng, who was largely kept quiet by Taariq Fielies was played through in on goal to slot the ball past Darren Keet.

Three points moves Pirates into the CAF Champions League spot again, with 46 points, two ahead of SuperSport and five ahead of fourth-placed Kaizer Chiefs – who face off against Sekhukhune United on Sunday afternoon at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
