Orlando Pirates winger Monnapule Saleng finished the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season as the leading contributor after being directly involved in 19 goals.
The 25-year-old who’s been nominated for the PSL Footballer of the Season alongside Mamelodi Sundowns duo Teboho Mokoena and Ronwen Williams achieved the feat in only 22 appearances.
After making his first start on match day 10 against Richards Bay, it took him two more games before opening his account in the league with a brace in a 2-0 win over Golden Arrows.
And since then he’s not looked back as he added nine goals and eight assists in 14 games, including a hat-trick in the 4-1 drubbing over Swallows in March.
Overall, he netted 10 goals and registered eight assists in the league and 15 goals with 10 assists in 29 games across all competitions.
Stellenbosch playmaker Junior Mendieta, who was surprisingly overlooked for the Midfielder of the Season award trails Saleng by two goal involvements.
The Argentine, who’s likely to be in high demand in the off-season, scored nine goals with eight assists, taking his overall tally to 17, while his teammate Iqraam Rayners finished with 16 goal involvements (nine goals and seven assists).
Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile with 15 (12 goals, three assists) and Cape Town City star Khanyisa Mayo with 14 (12 goals and two assists) round off the top five in the league.
PSL Young Football of the Season nominee, Cassius Maulila, finished with 12 (nine goals and three assists), level with Knox Mutizwa of Golden Arrows who scored six goals and registered six assists over the course of the season.
Of the top five, Shalulile, with 21 games, featured the least, one game less than Saleng.
