The South African Football Association (SAFA) is going ahead with its elective congress which has been scheduled for Saturday, 12 September.

On Friday, the association’s governance committee held a press briefing to formally hand over the presidential nominees.

While the committee did not disclose the names of the candidates, it was announced that two individuals have raised their hands for the position of SAFA president.

It is common knowledge that AmaZulu boss Sandile Zungu will be challenging current president Dr Danny Jordaan.

Jordaan is vying for a fourth term which has been endorsed by a number of SAFA National Executive Committee (NEC) members.

The 74-year-old has been the association’s president since 28 September 2013, and he has no intention to step aside.

This despite facing an ongoing legal battle involving charges of fraud, theft, and conspiracy.

Jordaan and his co-accused will be back at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court in November, and it remains to be seen if he will still return as SAFA president.

Meanwhile, Zungu has promised clean governance should he be elected as Jordaan’s successor at SAFA.

However, he would have to relinquish his role as chairman of AmaZulu should that happen on 12 September as per SAFA regulations.
