Sacked Malawi coach demands R7.2 m | Uncategorized

Coach Meck Mwase has challenged his dismissal as Malawi’s senior national football team coach, demanding US$500,000 [R7.2 m] in unpaid perks.
Lawyers from Makiyi, Kanyenda and Associates are representing Mwase, who has since demanded the reversal of the decision to fire him.
“We have instructions to demand that yourselves undertake the following actions within 48 hours hereof, failing which we are in receipt of strict instructions to initiate legal action against FAM without further recourse to yourselves,” reads part of the statement from the legal firm.
Mwase has, among others, asked for a “full withdrawal and/or retraction of the impugned media release. Unconditional apology to our client, which must enjoy similar prominence as the impugned media release. Payment for the full wages, salaries and monetization of all the fringe benefits or other contractual emoluments for the remainder of our client’s contract.”
Mwase, who secured the Flames’ qualification to Cameroon’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations finals before being demoted, accuses FAM of unfair dismissal after replacing him with technical director Mario Marinica.
Marinica, who has since relinquished his post as technical director, took charge of the Flames at AFCON on a caretaker basis, with Mwase demoted as his assistant.
The former Jomo Cosmos defender Mwase has also demanded $500,000 in unpaid perks during his reign.
