Royal AM head coach John Maduka and striker Mxolisi Macuphu were named DStv Coach of the Month, and Player of the Month for February/March respectively.
This was confirmed at a press conference in Durban on Thursday afternoon.
Royal AM picked up 11 points from the team’s five games during the period of 7 February to 20 March, and Maduka beat out Marumo Gallants’ Dan Malesela, Cape Town City’s Eric Tinkler and the Mamelodi Sundowns duo of Manqoba Mngqithi and Rulani Mokwena, to pick up his first individual monthly award as a head coach.
“Maduka has done incredibly well to get the team to be competitive after their relocation and change of ownership,” the judges were quoted as saying in the PSL’s statement.
“That fact that Royal AM are still part of the chasing pack behind log leaders Sundowns at this stage of the season, is proof of the great work he and his technical team have been doing.
“He sets up his team to play a positive style of football and their never say die attitude makes them an exciting team to watch. The manner in which he has been able to integrate players that joined Royal in the festive break has been impressive”.
Meanwhile Macuphu, who only joined the club at the start of the year, signing from TS Galaxy, scored four goals for Royal AM in those five games, and just beat out Gallants’ Phillip Ndlondlo for the individual award.
Finally Reeve Frosler picked up the Goal of the Month award, getting the most votes from fans for his strike against Orlando Pirates in the Soweto derby.
