Ronaldo Walks Out Of Portugal Camp, Vows To Reveal ‘The Truth’
Cristiano Ronaldo has left Portugal’s training camp ahead of their Nations League clash with Denmark, amid reports of growing tension with head coach Jorge Jesus.
The 41-year-old was an unused substitute in Portugal’s 2-1 victory over Norway and was reportedly set to start on the bench again against Denmark.
Jesus, who previously coached Ronaldo at Al-Nassr, denied there had been a serious fallout between them, insisting that team selection was his responsibility.
Ronaldo, however, subsequently announced that he had decided to leave the national team camp following a conversation with Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença.
“I have decided to leave. In time, I will tell all the Portuguese the truth about the reasons that motivated me to leave the national team,” Ronaldo said.
His sudden departure has raised fresh questions over his international future, although Ronaldo has not announced his retirement from Portugal.
Ronaldo remains Portugal’s record international goalscorer with 146 goals in 234 appearances and is also pursuing the landmark of 1,000 career goals.
