Riveiro Targets Second Cup Final With Pirates

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro says the Peter Mokaba Stadium is somewhat of a lucky charm for the Buccaneers, as he targets his second cup final in his first season.

The Sea Robbers qualified for the semi-finals of the Nedbank cup via a penalty shootout, beating ABC Motsepe League side Dondol Stars in Polokwane this past weekend.

It was the second time they did well in Cup at Peter Mokaba SDtadium after their 3-0 thumping over Mamelodi Sundowns the second leg of the MTN 8 semi-final at the same venue earlier this season.

Riveiro’s charges went on to with the MTN 8 and he was asked if he thinks the victory over the Gauteng ABC Motsepe League side was a good omen for the Nedbank Cup.

“We have good memories, bad as well. I think we struggled here with Sekhukhune [United], if I’m not mistaken,” said Riveiro.

“But it’s a good place for us, important, special. We like to play the cups, these knockout games we really do and like you said last time we managed to play a good final, to get a title and that’s the intention in every competition.

“We are representing Orlando Pirates so it goes without saying that it’s a must to fight to be there. And Being there is a different story it depends on a lot of factors but the team is really focused and doing everything in order to make our fans happy.

“Now we really have the possibility to see ourselves in another final.”

Pirates were drawn against Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the semi-final of the Nedbank Cup, with the draw taking place a day after Riveiro’s side reached the last four.
