Riveiro – If We Play This Game 50 Times, We Win 49

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has cut a frustrated figure with his side’s finishing against Chippa United on Sunday.

The Buccaneers lost 1-0 at Orlando Stadium to Daine Klate’s Chilliboys, leaving Pirates with four points on the log.

After the game, Riveiro lamented his side’s finishing

“Game under control from the start until the end, unless maybe one transition I remember in the first half behind Olisah that Richard has to work,” he said after the match.

“I don’t remember any other action where we were under pressure in the defensive phase unless the corner kick where they got the advantage.

“A bit more difficult in the beginning because again the opponent came again with a back five, so it’s a little bit more difficult to create superiorities until you start to move the ball with a proper speed.

“It takes a bit of time in the beginning, but then we did it very well, we created chances also in transition, we knew about the lack of surveillances of the opponent in that moment of the game.

“We did it well, playing the first pass forward very quick when we steal the ball. We had, if I remember correctly, at least two or three clear chances in the first 45 minutes, but we couldn’t monetise those.

“I think in the second our superiority was even more evident. But we were not good enough in the last pass, or last shot, last shot.

“I think, we are all experienced people here, we have seen this game many times in our lives – one team dominating, the other one not and in the one who was proposing less during the 90 minute getting the reward.

“I think if we play this game 50 times here at home this season, we’re going to win 49 but today we lost and we have to accept it with fair play and look forward to the next one because it’s coming in two days.”

Pirates not face Royal AM, who lost their first game of the season against Stellenbosch on Saturday.
