On July 19, 2022, Akhona Mkhize, 23, was kidnapped by unidentified suspects in Matabetulu, Inanda. The Inanda South African Police Service received a report of a kidnapping (SAPS). This was after she had gone to see her boyfriend. Unidentified suspects kidnapped Akhona while her boyfriend was not present.

According to information received, Akhona’s boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend was seen leaving the premises with the suspicious vehicle.

The abducted victim and the suspects were apprehended. On July 20, 2022, all thanks to the assistance of police officers stationed in the region from the Stabilization Operation Team.

The operation was successful when a 34-year-old woman was arrested, who later revealed that she had planned the kidnapping with the help of another man. The team’s investigation brought them to Buffelsdraai in Verulam, where they sadly discovered Akhona’s body with strangulation signs.

The car used in the commission of a crime was seized in Avoca Hills for further investigation. A 24-year-old male was tracked down and apprehended in Ixopo’s Echibini. Both suspects appeared before the Ntuzuma Magistrates Court on July 22, 2022. They were detained until they could make a formal bail request.

The police have done an outstanding job in locating and apprehending the suspects in this kidnapping and murder case. People should learn to let go when their ex-lovers no longer want to be in a relationship with them. For this senseless killing, these ruthless individuals should be imprisoned.
