Minister of International Relations Naledi Pandor has described Don Mattera as an achiever of note.
Pandor says the late poet represented South Africa well on the global stage.
She was speaking at the memorial service of the late icon.
Meanwhile, Johannesburg Mayor Mpho Phalatse has also paid tribute to Mattera.
Phalatse says his legacy will live on.
