Richards Bay Midfielder Barns Loses His Mother

After the tragic passing Richards Bay midfielder Siphamandla Mtolo, the club suffered another blow as Sanele Barns is mourning the passing of his mother.

This was confirmed by Bay chairman Sifiso Biyela, who also confirmed why co-coach Vasili Manousakis was absent in Mtolo’s funeral, having gone to Scotland to complete his UEFA A license course.

Barns’ mother passed away on Tuesday, the same day Mtolo sadly lost his life having collapsed on the training pitch.

Mtolo, who was the captain of the side, was laid to rest on Sunday in the Northern part of KwaZulu-Natal.

The 29-year-old’s funeral was attended by all five KZN clubs, including dignitaries in government and Kwenza Ngwenza, SAFA NEC.

As Mtolo was being buried, Barns was not present but was with own his family.

The good thing for Bay was that they weren’t playing this weekend, after losing in the first round of the Nedbank Cup to all conquering Mamelodi Sundowns last month.

Their DStv Diski Challenge team was supposed to have played against Kaizer Chiefs at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday, but the club asked the league to postpone it.

Bay will be back in action when they visit TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium next Sunday (15:30).
