Struggling Betway Premiership side Marumo Gallants have confirmed the appointment of Jamil Benouahi as the club’s new head coach.

Benouahi takes over from Frenchman Alexandre Lafitte, who recently parted ways with the club. Owing to poor results, the club placed Lafitte on suspension before they showed him the exit door.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Gallants said they were confident that Benouahi would contribute positively to the team’s success.

“The Club is confident that Benouahi’s expertise, leadership, and fresh perspective will contribute positively to the team’s performance as Marumo Gallants continues its campaign for the remainder of the season.

“He will be supported by the club’s assistant coaches, Julien Outrebon and Trevor Mathiane, along with the technical team, to ensure continuity and stability within the squad during this transition period,” he added.

“Marumo Gallants F.C. remains committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, governance, and performance both on and off the field, as the team continues its preparations for the remainder of the season.

“The Club would like to thank its supporters, partners, and stakeholders for their continued support and understanding during this period.”

With Gallants currently in 14th place on the log and level on 18 points with 15th-placed Orbit College, the club has tasked Benouahi with saving them from the drop.

The former AS FAR assistant coach will take charge of his first match on Tuesday, away to bottom-placed Magesi FC.
