Rayners Finally Opens Up On Stellies Move

Stellenbosch FC striker Iqraam Rayners has finally opened up on his January Deadline Day move from SuperSport United.

The 27-year-old made a return to the Cape Winelands side in the January window transfer just hours before the window shut. The move happened after the deal of Thamsanqa Gabuza to Stellies broke down.

Since joining the side, Rayners has been in phenomenal form, scoring 15 goals in just 11 games.

He is also the leading goalscorer in the Nedbank Cup with six goals, after netting three braces in the previous rounds against TS Galaxy, Swallows and Mamelodi Sundowns.

During Friday’s Nedbank Cup media day in Stellenbosch, Rayners explained how his return to the club came about.

“Things are different this time, when I was speaking with coach Steve about me coming back, I asked him ‘can come back on loan for six months’. Then afterwards he said to me he wants to do the deal permanent. So I said ‘I’m happy, I will come anytime,” Rayners said.

“I knew I was gonna score lots of goals for Stellenbosch and I saw the way they play. They just needed someone to score goals and win games that’s all.”

Rayners also insisted that that he doesn’t feel pressure despite being the main goalscorer at Stellenbosch, netting 15 times since his return

“I don’t have any pressure, to be honest with you,” he added.

“I just go and play my game and I just want to win games and help the team going to the final.”

Stellenbosch take on Sekhukhune United in the Nedbank Cup semi-final at Daine Craven Stadium at 18:00 on Sunday.
