- President Cyril Ramaphosa has removed Social Development Minister Sisisi Tolashe from office following corruption-related allegations.
- Tolashe faces accusations including abuse of power, misuse of public funds and allegedly diverting a departmental employee to work at her private residence.
- Minister in the Presidency Sindisiwe Chikunga has been appointed acting minister pending a permanent replacement.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has removed Social Development Minister Sisisi Tolashe from her position following allegations of corruption and misconduct.
Tolashe was removed in terms of Section 91(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996.
Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Sindisiwe Chikunga, has since been appointed acting minister in the portfolio pending a full-time appointment.
Tolashe is facing multiple allegations relating to corruption, misconduct, abuse of power and the misuse of public funds.
Among the accusations against her are claims that she diverted a departmental employee to work at her private home as a nanny and allegedly forced the employee to surrender 50% of her government-paid salary.
Tolashe, who is also president of the ANC Women’s League (ANCWL), has additionally been accused of failing to declare SUVs allegedly donated to the ANCWL.
