Premier Soccer League prosecutor Zola Majavu has confirmed that Kaizer Chiefs’ case over fielding two ineligible youngsters against Sekhukhune will be finalised on 13 May, while John Comitis has been charged by the league.
Amakhosi are currently still fighting the PSL over their two fixtures against Cape Town City and Golden Arrows, which they couldn’t honour due to a serious Covid-19 outbreak at the club.
The PSL dismissed an application by Chiefs to have the two games postponed, a decision which the club had taken to arbitration and won.
However, the PSL are now taken that case to the High Court, where the case will be heard on 10 May. In the meantime, the two fixtures have been rescheduled for 27 April and 30 April.
The Glamour Boys, though, are also facing new charges by the PSL for facing two ineligible players – namely Aden Tristan McCarthy and Mduduzi Shabalala – in their fixture against Sekhukhune United.
“I confirm that earlier today [Monday], Kaizer Chiefs appeared before the PSL DC to answer to charges of fielding two ineligible players who were originally registered for the DStv Diski Challenge, however, they were used in a fixture between Chiefs and Sekhukhune United,” Majavu said.
“The case has been postponed to 13 May 2022, for final arguments and on that day, under the direction of the panel, the matter must be finalised.
“What will then be outstanding will be a judgment, which will be reserved, mindful of the fact that the season is drawing to an end.”
In addition, Cape Town City chairman John Comitis was charged for bringing the league into disrepute and his case will be heard on 29 April.
“The second confirmation is that Mr John Comitis will appear before the DC this coming Friday on 29 April to answer to charges of bringing the league into disrepute based on some media utterances attributable to him, which he subsequently confirmed as having been true and accurate,” Majavu added.
“Once these matters have been finalised, I will provide feedback on the decision of the PSL DC itself.”
Cape Town City are yet to confirm whether they will partake in their rescheduled fixture against Chiefs on 30 April. They argue they were not properly involved in the rescheduling and insist the match should be played after the High Court hearing on 10 May.
