PSL have announced the DStv Premiership Goal of the Month winners for August, September/October, December/January, and February/March.
The selection wasn’t done by fans as usual.
The former South African footballers who have plied their trade in PSL and in the English Premier League, Benni McCarthy and Steven Pienaar did the selection.
PSL ANNOUNCE DSTV PREMIERSHIP GOAL OF THE MONTH WINNERS
“In line with keeping up with innovations in the DStv Premiership, South African football legends Benni McCarthy and Steven Pienaar spearheaded the selection of the DStv Premiership Goal of the Month award, in a new 2022/23 season format,” said a statement from PSL.
“In August, Phillip Ndlondlo’s well taken shot into the top corner from the edge of the 18-yard area against Royal AM was selected as the best goal to kick off the new season, while still on the books of Marumo Gallants.
“And In a goal that will likely go down as one of the best in the Soweto Derby, Yusuf Maart’s incredible match-winning strike from his own half for Kaizer Chiefs, took the honours for September/October.
“Themba Zwane of Mamelodi Sundowns, who brilliantly drove with the ball forward from deep in his own half, before connecting a one-two touch with Cassius Mailula, and then finishing off the move he started, saw him win the best goal for December/January.
“In February/March, Lantshene Phalane’s powerful drive with his left foot for Royal AM, that beat Sundowns’ goalkeeper Ronwen Williams hands down, was a unanimous winner from the legends for the month.
“All the winners of the monthly goals go forth to contest the Goal of the Season at the PSL Awards later this month. The winners of the Goal of the Month award will each receive a trophy and R7,000 courtesy of league sponsors, DStv.”
