ActionSA has requested the Independent Police Investigative Directorate(IPID) to investigate alleged assault by police officers who had assaulted learners in Mpumalanga and left them with scars and bruises.

POLICE OFFICERS BEAT SCHOOL KIDS

The alleged incident took place Barberton Secondary School in Barberton on Tuesday. The officers had been called to the school after two learners who were involved in a brawl were called into the principals office. It is within the principal’s office where the apparent assault took place, without the parents knowledge.

ActionSA insists that IPID head Dikeledi Ntlatseng is empowered to investigate all incidences of police brutality and misconduct pursuant to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate Act of 2011 to ensure that the officials found to be guilty of misconduct are held accountable.

ActionSA leader in Mpumalanga Thoko Mashiane has since condemned the police’s actions.

ACTIONSA CALLS FOR BAD APPLES BE REMOVED

“The SAPS has no right to assault any person regardless of the situation, much less school children. Therefore, their actions are in contravention of the South African law”, says Mashiane.

“The primary function of the police is to maintain law and order and to protect and serve the South African public. Instead, they are doing the opposite, they are the perpetrators of violent acts. This is the reason why they are losing the war on crime”, Mashiane adds.

Mashiane says that the integrity of the police needs to be restored as there are good police officers within the SAPS and calls for the ‘bad apples’ to be dealt with.
