After winning his 19th career title by clinching the Saudi First Division Championship with Al-Ahli, serial winner Pitso Mosimane is already looking forward to the next challenge.
The decorated South African tactician has added yet another piece of silverware to his impressive collection. He guided Ahli to the title in the Saudi second tier.
It was his first title outside of the continent of Africa and means the impressive Mosimane has now won trophies in every country he has coached.
PITSO MOSIMANE, THE SERIAL WINNER
“Jingles,” as he is affectionately known, has won silverware with SuperSport United, Mamelodi Sundowns and Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
At the beginning of his career, Mosimane guided Matsatsantsa a Pitori to the SAA Super Eight and the Nedbank Cup.
He moved to Tshwane rivals Sundowns, where he won five Premiership titles, two more Nedbank Cups and two Telkom Knockout titles.
It was at Sundowns also where he got his first taste of continental success. He led the Tshwane giants to the CAF Champions League and the CAF Super Cup.
Mosimane’s then moved to Ahly where he went on to win two more Champions League titles, two CAF Super Cup titles, as well as one Egyptian Cup.
The Kagiso-born mentor was hungry for a new challenge when he accepted the task of awakening a sleeping giant in the Middle East in Ahli.
He has successfully met his mandate of guiding the club back to the Saudi Pro League and has added the cherry on top by winning the First Division title.
“Delivered on our mandate of promoting the team to Premier League, and now of winning the Championship,” Mosimane reacted on social media. In any league or competition, country or continent, we catch big fish. Nile River before and now in the Red Sea. Waiting for the next project.
The former Bafana Bafana tactician also revealed just what it took to bring the title home with a game to spare in the Saudi second tier.
“There were lots of tactical and physical training sessions. Lots of group and individual video analysis, one on one mental and motivational talks. Lots of hard work, mistakes done and corrections. Arguments, tears and hugs. Then the trophy,” added Mosimane.
ON TO THE NEXT ONE FOR MOSIMANE
Mosimane is now looking forward to his next challenge. And it appears likely that it will be at another club with reports that Ahli will not activate their option to extend his deal.
Mosimane will have plenty of options. Reports indicate that he is on the wishlist of clubs such as Esperance and Zamalek.
“When God is in control, no human being can distract. He just turns criticism into learning curves, makes you accept, embrace your mistakes and failures,” added Mosimane.
“I have learnt that in order to succeed you will face hurdles and stumble but you don’t quit. Mamba Mentality.”
