Ghana head coach Otto Addo has named Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori in his squad to face Brazil and Nicaragua this month for their 2022 FIFA World Cup preparations.
Ofori, 28, who was named the vice-captain of Pirates in the off-season has been a regular in the Black Stars since making his debut under Avram Grant in 2015 and has amassed 25 senior international caps.
However, during his injury spell, Charlton Atheltic’s Jojo Wollacott has emerged as the first-choice stopper, while Belgium-based Abdul Nurudeen has provided further competition for places in the squad.
The bulk of the 29-man squad are expected to be part of the team that travels to Qatar later this year for the global showpiece, as new additions Tariq Lamptey, Denis Odoi and Inaki Williams have all been selected.
Former Dortmund assistant coach Addo along with technical director Chris Houghton have played major roles in securing some of the dual national talents ahead of the Mundial – with a renewed sense of optimism among the Black Stars after a dismal 2021 Africa Cup of Nations campaign.
The West African giants face off against Brazil on 23 September in France before the Nicaragua game four days later in Murcia Spain.
