Pirates January Signing Set For Early Exit

Orlando Pirates winger Craig Martin is poised to leave the club just six months after his arrival from Cape Town City.

The 29-year-old was a long-term target for the Buccaneers and was eventually snapped up from City in January but he failed to make an impact in the first-team.

Upon signing for the club, he made six consecutive appearances under Jose Riveiro but did not feature for the club since after the return of Thabiso Monyane from injury, while Paseka Mako also featured in the right-back.

At City, Martins showed incredible versatility and consistency, racking up 152 appearances for the club over five and a half seasons, after Benni McCarthy signed him from the amateur ranks in Cape Town, where he was on the books of Glendene.

iDiski Times sources have confirmed Martin did not return for pre-season with Pirates and will complete a move away from the club this week.

There were a couple of enquiries from Cape Town-based clubs and Chippa United in recent weeks as the speedy winger now looks set to make his next career move.

Martin now joins Ndumiso Mabena out the exit door as Pirates look to cull several of their players who were on the periphery of the first-team squad last season.
