Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has commented on speculation that the club has made a move for Percy Tau.
The Bafana Bafana forward is said to have been made available to leave Al Ahly after just one season, with the Egyptian giants concerned about his injury history.
While Tau is said to be open to remaining at the club for the 2022/23 campaign, a loan move to Le Harve failed to materialise while Pirates were amongst the clubs linked with a move according to recent reports in Egyptian media.
But the club have now distanced itself from the idea, with Bienvenu Eva Nga, Zakhele Lepasa, Evidence Makgopa, Kwame Peprah among their forward options, while Thembinkosi Lorch, Kabelo Dlamini, Fortune Makaringe, Collins Makgaka, Vincent Pule are among the players featuring in the 10 roles.
“This is not the first time you ask me about the goalscoring situation and I’m not going to change my answer,” he said at Rand Stadium on Thursday morning after being asked by iDiski Times about potentially adding Tau amid the goal scoring issues.
“We usually finalise and finish our attacks with six players in the box, at least, if it’s not a transition in an organised attack – so they all have a responsibility and the intention and the wish to score goals.
“Our wingbacks, our number 10s, we play with many offensive profiles in our starting eleven so it’s a responsibility we all share. Obviously, we’d like to increase the figure of goals but I’m going to be more worried when we don’t have chances to score goals.
“My focus is about the players we have in the squad. We have a lot of talent, and different profiles, trust me it’s just a question of confidence and one day this type of question won’t be here anymore – I’m pretty sure.
“I don’t know the player you mentioned, it’s not my focus at the moment, my focus is on TS Galaxy, my players and that’s not going to change.”
Pirates will be looking to get back to winning ways on Saturday when they host high-flying TS Galaxy at Orlando Stadium (17h30).
