Orlando Pirates co-coach Fadlu Davids has praised Stuart Baxter and pointed out Kaizer Chiefs biggest strength ahead of the upcoming Soweto Derby.
The Buccaneers enter the game level on 32 points with their bitter rivals but have played three more games. They will need a positive result on Saturday in order to keep their top-two hopes alive.
Davids has praised opposition coach Baxter and explained why the Glamour Boys will even be harder to beat then in the reverse fixture, which Pirates lost due to an injury-time penalty.
“We know as they did in the last match, unfortunate mistake, Tyson passing the ball to the goalkeeper and they scored from that situation,”
“We know that is Kaizer Chiefs at the moment, really well coached, really well structured defensively.
“But they wait, they wait for you to make that mistake. They wait for you to have that turnover. They hurt you with their front-three on transition.
“They are one of the best teams with regards to transition, with pace, with the quality they have with their front-three, but also defensively strong, with five, not easy to break down.
“It’s up to us to be able to unlock this five-defence line, to minimise mistakes, because that’s what they’re waiting for. They can wait until the 91st minute for your mistake.
“Not really a team that will high press you but they will wait for your mistake and then hit you on the transition. So we have to be very clear to minimise mistakes and find solution to unlock this five-man defence line.”
Chiefs have won the last two Soweto derbies, while Baxter has only lost one of his 10 derbies over his two stints with the Glamour Boys.
