Pirates Close In On Next Signing?

Orlando Pirates are seemingly close to another signing after veteran striker Ndumiso Mabena was pictured in training with the club.

Mabena is seen in full Pirates garments, as he is currently without a club after leaving Royal AM last Thursday after both parties agreed to terminate his contract following their dispute.

The 35-year-old was frozen out at Royal AM after he did not agree on a move to join Swallows FC, with Royal AM signing Khethokuthula Ndlovu and Ruzaigh Gamildien.

Mabena said the move was done without his consent, leading to him not to go and refusing to train with Royal AM, which led to the club charging him.

After a court battle between both sides, the club and a player agreed to a four-months payout, as confirmed by president Shauwn ‘Ma’ Mkhize to iDiski Times.

Now, Mabena has surfaced at Orlando Pirates, where he is said to be close to signing a new deal after the club shared image of the 35-year-old in training with the club via their media channels.

Mabena can sign for the Buccaneers anytime since he’s a free agent and has the clearance in his hands.

However, if he joins the club, it will be like going back home for him. He joined Pirates from Winners Park ahead of the 2008/09 season. In five seasons at the club, Mabena won two league titles, two Nedbank Cups, one Telkom Knockout and two MTN8s.

He was at the club when Pirates lost the CAF Champions League in 2013, before leaving at the end of 2013/14 season. In all, Mabena featured in 69 matches, scoring nine goals in the process.

Chippa United and Sekhukhune United were said to be also interested in the player.
