The incident occurred next to an airfield yesterday morning.

The pilot was confirmed dead by emergency services.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Donald Mdluli says a preliminary investigation shows that the pilot was travelling alone during the time of the crash.

“Stakeholders and emergency [personnel] were summoned to the crash site in Ermelo. Unfortunately, the man who was the pilot of the plane was certified dead [on the] scene. Preliminary investigation indicates that the pilot was alone during the time of the crash.”
