AmaZulu FC head coach Pablo Franco Martin has made a bold claim despite a defeat to Kaizer Chiefs in the DStv Premiership.

Usuthu lost 3-0 to Amakhosi on Saturday evening at the FNB Stadium in what was the first loss for the Spaniard coach in SA. Meanwhile, it was the first league victory for Molefi Ntseki’s side this season.

AmaZulu are also yet to collect maximum points, having came out with three goalless draws prior to meeting Chiefs. Further, the KZN-based side is still seeking to tap the net for the first time in this campaign.

And in spite of failing to contain Chiefs, Martin feels they were “superior” to the home side on the day.

“I think today for anyone who didn’t watch this game is going to think that we are done and that AmaZulu are a bad team,” he told the media.

“But I think today, during many minutes of the game, we were superior to the opponents. We created too many clear goal-scoring chances to at least have a possibility to be in the game and to fight for the points till the end.

“Unlikely, we are lacking accuracy, and with that, it’s impossible to win games.”

According to the former Real Madrid assistant coach, AmaZulu have been improving from what they were when he came.

He says the team will be much better in the second round of the season

‘AMAZULU ARE GOING TO BE A GOOD TEAM’

“I think we are improving,” he added. “Today, I think we did worse in defence, especially in the first five minutes of the first half. Then, I think we controlled them pretty well.

“And for me, the second goal we conceded is not something you can tell your players to improve. I think the situation is to defend well, and of course, there are details that you can improve. We will work on that.

“This is not a terrible situation when defending, it’s more about the quality of the opponents they have. From here, we are going to be improving.

“I said from the beginning, from pre-season, that this team is going to need time. What we are building is something that you cannot expect to be built in a month or two.

“I’m always talking about this that AmaZulu are going to be a good team in the second part of the season.”
