OFFICIAL: Two SA Ref’s On 2022 World Cup List

South African match officials Victor Gomes and Siwela Zakhele are among the African contingent appointed for the 2022 FIFA World Cup later this year.

 

Gomes and his two regular assistants Zakhele and Souru Phatsoane of Lesotho have been selected by FIFA’s refereeing department as part of 129 match officials called up to the tournament.

Gomes is one of 36 match officials, while Zakhele and Phatsoane are among 69 assistants on the list, with 24 video match officials also being called up.

The list of African referees also includes Janny Sikazwe (Zambia) and Maguette Ndiaye (Senegal) and you can see all African match officials below:

The Qatar World Cup will also be the first with female referees after match officials Stéphanie Frappart (France), Salima Mukansanga (Rwanda) and Yoshimi Yamashita (Japan) as well as assistant referees Neuza Back (Brazil), Karen Díaz Medina (Mexico) and Kathryn Nesbitt (USA) were selected.
