Mamelodi Sundowns and South African coach Pitso Mosimane have learnt which teams they will be facing in the quarter-final of the CAF Champions League.
The DStv Premiership leaders were the best team in the group stages, collecting 16 points and five clean sheets.
As a consequence, they topped Group A, followed by Mosimane’s Al Ahly, which meant both teams could not face each other in the quarters because they’re coming from the same group.
As one of the seeded teams, Downs could only be paired with one of the three runners-up from the other group, namely Belouizdad, Petro de Luanda and ES Setif.
In the end it was Petro de Luanda who were paired with Masandawana – the Angolan side finished second behind Wydad Casablanca in Group D, losing just one game, a 5-1 thumping by the Tunisian giants.
Meanwhile, Al Ahly were drawn against three-times champions Raja Casablanca. As one of the unseeded teams, Mosimane’s side were paired one of the four group winners. Raja topped Group A with 15 points.
Below is the full draw:
QF 1: Al Ahly vs Raja Casablanca
QF 2: ES Setif vs ES Tunis
QF 3: CR Belouizdad vs Wydad Casablanca
QF 4: Petro de Luanda vs Mamelodi Sundowns
Masandawana could face the winner between Belouizdad and Wydad Casablanca in the semi-final, while Al Ahly would meet the winner of ES Setif and ES Tunis in the other semi-final, should they get past Raja.
