Chelsea have announced the appointment of Graham Potter as their new coach after the sacking of Thomas Tuchel.

The Blues sacked the German tactician, just eight games into the 2022/23 season following a stuttering start.

Chelsea’s new owners were looking for a replacement that can lead the club’s sporting project over the coming years after the club has been known to chop and change coaches.

They have now confirmed the arrival of Potter from Brighton & Hove Albion.

“Chelsea Football Club is delighted to welcome Graham Potter as our new Head Coach, joining us on a five-year contract to bring his progressive football and innovative coaching to the Club,” the club said via a statement.

Potter has been in charge of Brighton for 134 games and has received widespread laurels for his work with the club.

The 47-year-old said he was excited to be given this opportunity with the London giants.

“I am incredibly proud and excited to represent Chelsea FC, this fantastic football club,” he explained.

“I am very excited to partner with Chelsea’s new ownership group and look forward to meeting and working with the exciting group of players and to develop a team and culture that our amazing fans can be proud of.

“I would also like to place my sincere thanks to Brighton & Hove Albion for allowing me this opportunity and in particular Tony Bloom and all the players, staff and supporters for their continued support during my time at the club.”

Potter was in charge of Brighton during Percy Tau’s stint with the Premier League side before he left to join Al Ahly. Tau made just six appearances under the Englishman and was loaned out thrice.
