Al Ahly have sacked Pitso Mosimane successor Ricardo Soares after their disappointing end to the Egyptian League.

The Club of the Century finished outside the top two in the league for a first time in 30 years, leading to Soares’ dismissal a day after their 4-0 win over Cleopatra FC in their final league match.

“Al Ahly board has relieved Ricardo Soares from his duties as the manager of our first team,” the club said via a statement.

“The club would like to thank Soares and his assistants for their service to the club and we wish them all the best in the future.”

The Portuguese tactician was unveiled as new Al Ahly coach on 30 June after Mosimane had opted to depart from the ‘Club of the Century’ due to personal reasons.

However, Soares’ had a tough time in Cairo, with his club falling further behind in the Egyptian Premier League title race and also losing the 2021/22 Egyptian Cup final to bitter rivals Zamalek.

Soares was in charge of just 17 games, winning nine, drawing five and losing two.
