The first edition of the Northern Cape Premier’s Cup, scheduled for the last weekend of the month, has been called off.
“The Premier’s Cup has been postponed to September due to PSL early fixtures change, and this affects our tournament because all teams were concerned of playing two games before season starts, there’s a high risk of injuries,” the tournament organiser Luyanda Papu told FARPost.
“We will certainly use FIFA international break for the new format, which will be conducive for mid-season games. All invitational teams [Sekhukhune United, SuperSport United and Botswana outfit Jwaneng Galaxy] have accepted this change and will participate in the tournament’s first edition.”
Sharing the sad news with other stakeholders and supporters invested in the tournament, the organising committee penned an apology letter stating the new changes.
Dear Members
I hope this letter finds you in the highest of spirit and the best health. At this time, we wish to inform you that the first edition of the Northern Cape Premier’s Cup, initially scheduled for the last weekend of July as per the previous invitation, is postponed.
We live in unprecedented times, and we must adjust our daily lives, especially in events. The DStv Premiership early start on August 6th has affected our plans.
Furthermore, the organising committee and invitational teams seemed not to agree on the new proposed dates between July 24th and July 30th. For the sake of football interests, please let us postpone the tournament for the mid-season FIFA international break in September with a new tournament format.
We apologise for any inconvenience.
Thank you
Luyanda Papu (Northern Cape Premier’s Cup LOC Coordinator)
