Magesi FC face Baroka in the Motsepe Foundation Championship clash on Sunday and former Orlando Pirates defender Diamond Thopola has shared his thoughts ahead of the Limpopo derby.
The much-awaited derby will take place at the Global Village, with the kick-off scheduled for 15:00.
Thopola was among the new players unveiled by Dikwena tša Meetse on Friday, 18 August 2023 at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.
The defender has been training with Magesi since last month. He joined the Clinton Larsen-coached side after he parted ways with the now-defunct All Stars, who sold their status to Black Leopards.
DIAMOND THOPOLA ON THE LIMPOPO DERBY
“It’s a derby obviously, and nobody wants to lose a derby,” he told this publication.
“I think it’s going to be a very interesting game and obviously is an away game for us but it’s still in Polokwane.
“So, we just have to make sure that we start well. I think it will boost our momentum going forward into the season.”
Magesi FC CEO JOHN MATHIBE ON HOW THEY PLAN TO APPROACH THE NEW SEASON
Meanwhile, Magesi CEO John Mathibe also shed light on how the club plans to approach the new better than the previous campaign.
“As Magesi, we come a long way. Those who were here last season, will remember that we struggled a little bit,” added Mathibe.
“The coach and the technical we decided to sit down and say let’s headhunt. For each team we played against, we tried to identify if we could see anything better than we had.
“So, truth to be told, we achieved that goal by adding new players. But, not only the players but also new faces into our technical stuff to help the team perform better.”
