Njabulo Blom bids emotional farewell to boyhood club

Blom is excited about the next chapter of his career in the MLS.

However, the 23-year-old has come up through the ranks at Kaizer Chiefs and has only known one club.

“It’s sad because this is the team I grew up supporting and the moments and experiences I shared with the team, like going to CAF (Champions League), losing the final, are moments I won’t forget in my life and, because I came through the development team, it adds extra meaning,” Njabulo Blom told KaizerChiefs.com.

Blom is nonetheless relishing the challenge of testing himself in a top league.

“I am also excited because it’s a new journey for me. It’s every player’s dream to go and play abroad.

“This is always going to be home. It wasn’t my intention to leave this way but I think, at the same time, I have been a team player. I have been working hard for the team. At this moment I had to think about my future and my family – to put them first – and also my growth as an individual and as a player.”

Kaizer Chiefs plot to replace star

Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Junior admits that replacing Blom will be a challenge.

“We have many plans around that.

“As I have said before, we are trying to build a young, dynamic squad with the right mix of youth and top-quality experience,” Motaung said.

“We are already working on our squad audit and the areas we feel we need to beef up.

“Opportunities arise when someone leaves; it opens the door for someone else to put their hand up and start their own journey.

“So, we are well aware and we have long prepared for this eventuality, and someone else now has a chance to stake a claim for a place in the team.

“Obviously, much thought went into this and we are feeling very positive about the way forward.”
